Nestled in the heart of the Hambleden Valley in a designated ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Frog is centrally located in the village of Skirmett. An 18th Century coaching inn, The Frog enjoys an enviable location surrounded by rolling hills, meadows and masses of wildlife. From pheasant, fallow deer and muntjac to the wonderful red kites which can be seen circling overhead.
We have a lovely, flower filled, child-friendly garden with far reaching views across the valley, which is perfect in the summer months for enjoying a glass or two of Pimms, a gin & tonic or an ice-cold Guinness and soaking up sun. At any time of the year the view from the Frog is wonderful in all directions and is just as special and inviting in the winter months as it is glorious in the summer. The public bar is the heart of the Frog. Visitors, whether they be locals, city dwellers, professionals or walkers, are all immediately made to feel at home in the beautifully decorated interior. Entering the Frog through the main door, one is immediately greeted by a large roaring fire (throughout the winter months), which is surrounded by leather and oak seating. Oak beams, bar and floorboards combined with colourful textiles create a feeling that can be best described as traditional, warm and classic. There’s a well-stocked bar, friendly bar staff and importantly, because the Frog is a Free house, varying specials of beer, wine and spirits are also on offer. Atmosphere is what creates a special public bar, and rest assured, the Frog has this in abundance. Accommodation at the Frog. We have three rooms available at the Frog, all of which have en-suite facilities and all of which include the fantastic 'Frog breakfast'. Each room has a television and views of the valley. The Frog is very quietly situated and a good nights sleep is assured. Why not spend a weekend with us and enjoy the walks, towns and villages that this beautiful part of the Chilterns has to offer? We are sorry but although dogs are welcomed in the bar areas and garden of The Frog, we do not allow dogs in the bedrooms. Dining at The Frog. The food and menu at the Frog is of the highest quality. Head Chef and co-owner Jim Crowe has worked hard on developing relationships with local suppliers and much of the food is created using seasonal local produce. The fillet of venison with red cabbage and redcurrant jus is one of the most popular dishes on the menu and for good reason. The taste of the Venison is comparable in texture to the finest Aberdeen fillet of beef but of course is 100% organic and is sourced and butchered from within a couple of miles on the Hambleden Estate.
Front of House and co-owner Noelle, is also the Pastry Chef and desserts and puddings at the Frog are wonderful. The sticky toffee pudding and lemon cake are legendary! Business meetings and celebrations at The Frog. Because of its location, the Frog is an ideal place to hold out-of-town meetings and conferences and the dining room can be arranged to accommodate 20 people comfortably in classic conference style. The room can be screened for total privacy from the rest of the pub. We also provide refreshments and food.
