Full Description: Have you ever wondered what it would be like to fly like a bird?

The London Gliding Club offers you the opportunity to find out!
Just 20 miles from Greater London, the Club is situated in the beautiful Chilterns on the edge of the town of Dunstable.
One way in which gliders are able to stay airborne is "hill lift". When the wind is from a north-westerly direction, the 300ft high escarpment of Dunstable Downs deflects air upwards and our gliders are able to stay aloft for many hours.
During the summer, gliders use "thermal lift" to stay aloft and race each other around routes which are often many hundreds of kilometres long. Gliders regularly cross the finish line at speeds in excess of 120mph to the enjoyment of onlookers on Dunstable Downs!
